Know Thyself; Mastery in Practice

Know Thyself; Mastery in Practice

March 05, 20262 min read

I often guide authors I work with through a 28-day Mastery of self course. I've personally been through the course over 30 times. It has significantly changed me and continues to do so. As I guide others through it, I have the privilege of witnessing profound shifts in their personal lives, their books, and their business, too.

Michael and I have been through the course many times together. Recently, we went through it in a group review of the 28 Principles of Mastery with 60 other people going through one principle each day.

It’s a simple practice, but a powerful one. It keeps us connected to each other, focused on what matters most, and growing personally and professionally as stewards of Quantum Shift Media.

Each day, something inevitably shows up—in our marriage, our leadership, or our business—that brings us back to the principle we’re holding. When we pause and view the situation through that lens, everything shifts. Perspective opens. Right action becomes clearer. Peace follows.

One day, the principle was Order. We noticed that our internal communication systems were not going as smoothly as we wanted. We were not experiencing order; we were experiencing chaos. So, we sat down at our kitchen table and asked a simple question: Where is order missing, and what is ours to do?

From that place, a clear plan emerged. Not from pressure—but from alignment. And with that plan came peace.

We’re learning again and again that mastery requires both wings: the wing of grace and the wing of self-effort. When they work together, we don’t fly in circles—we move forward.

This is how we live and lead at Quantum Shift Media. Our mission is to steward messages from voice to vocation, transforming lived truth and story into legacy—through books that carry impact, authority, and service.

Socrates said, "Know Thyself." He lived it, taught it, and made it central to Western philosophy. Knowing yourself, your true self, is the mastery journey. And knowing your purpose means every decision you make moves you toward it. And that begins with one principle and one aligned step at a time. And Michael and I are finding that the journey is one well worth investing in.
